No question, 2005 was one mixed up year for Kitty-Yo including lots of changes. Tears and screams of joy were sometimes closely together. We've been experiencing new music and celebrated great festivals, parties and concerts, we had to deal with some goodbyes and said welcome to many newcomers.
Our sublabel KITTY-CUTS has grown too so we gathered the best of those 12inch releases and asked Harry Axt to created a mix-compilation under supervision of Jan Driver who already produced remixes for Laurent Garnier, Faithless, Whirlpool, Lucid and 2Raumwohung.
"CUTS & PIECES" includes collaborations by Gold Chains & Sue Cie & Phon.o, Chikinki & Litwinenko, Electro-Breaker Jahcoozi & Raz Ohara und our new wunderkind Ed Laliq puts on the Human League style for Richard Davis. Anlässlich der Gründung des neuerdings für die Clubsounds zuständigen Sublabels Kitty-Cuts hat man im Hause Kitty-Yo mal einen Blick in den Backkatalog gewagt und will mit der nun vorliegenden CD bisher nur auf Vinyl erhältliche Remixe den Nicht-Sammlern zugänglich machen sowie bei der Gelegenheit gleich die Label-Neuzugänge vorstellen. Und damit das Ganze möglichst homogen rüberkommt, wurden die Fundstücke von Harry Axt zusammen mit Jan Driver einem - ob der Stilvielfalt recht flüssig geratenen - Mix unterzogen.
So wird denn u.a. verspielter Turntablism-Funk von Litwinenko oder Darkwave-poppiges von Codec & Flexor (beides Neuzugänge) geboten. Deep wird’s mit Remixen von Raz-Ohara- und Sex-In-Dallas-Tracks, gefolgt von einem der Höhepunkte, nämlich M.i.a.’s Remix von „I Am Disco“ (Rhythm King And Her Friends). Selten war Abfahrt so sophisticated.(...)
Unbedingter Anspieltipp: „Oh My Gosh“ von Man Like Me! So würde wohl Ken Ishii klingen, wäre er in Londons Grime-Szene groß geworden. Da darf man gespannt sein auf das anstehende Album.
Gegen Schluss gibt’s dann noch auf die Fresse von Jahcoozi’s „Black Barbie“ in der Modeselektor-Bearbeitung - Dancehall meets Techstep. Ebenso fein, wenn auch weniger brachial gebreakt werden Chikinki von Litwinenko, und Spyritual’s souliger Coffeetable-Elektropop wurde als Bonustrack drangehängt.
Wer also clubsoundtechnisch auf Abwechslung steht, kann hier bedenkenlos zugreifen. Alle anderen holen sich ihre Kauftipps bitte in den Werbeblöcken der einschlägigen TV-Sender.
