FILESHARING. the album sounds grown up, futuristic and definitely warm. it is thoroughly emotional, especially the amazing ballade WORTSPUR. it is music that longs for an intimate celebration.
LAUB has been around since '96 releasing their work on KITTY-YO. they have been the first pop reference on the meanwhile international successful berlin label, which therewith managed to escape the postrock hype. LAUB, in the past, have been often misinterpreted as trip-hop-hope. after three years of abstinence, they are now releasing their 3rd album FILESHARING.it is a concept, which primarily describes a mode of working , meaning that this record was mainly produced in different places and only rarely together. music and visuals emerged in individual processes and the data got transfered through the world wide web or network status and edited, integrated, exchanged and again transfered.
simultaneously FILESHARING characterisis the life situation of LAUB (ANTYE GREIE-FUCHS and JOTKA). it is a life, which is mainly determind through work and informations in network, technically (www.) as in social sense. both artists became producers to retain the total control on their results and actions. apart from being "selfcontroled", their have been some cooperations on this album. In the beginning of this year, ANTYE got invited by CRAIG ARMSTRONG to participate on his solo record. ARMSTRONG, who has been writing great film scores, is well known in the pop world for the achievements of his orchestral arrangements in MADONNAS FROZEN and other MASSIVE ATTACK songs. for LAUB, his enlightening shines through in the track GETRIEBE on FILESHARING.CRAIG ARMSTRONG about ANTYE - FUCHS:

despite of having a "non-traditional" band and their untypical way of singer/songwriting is FILESHARING bei no means a "clicks and cuts piece". it is about pop music. compared to other artists, who cast the "future" to refresh conventional song structures by producers or musicians to involve the modern futuristic sound, LAUB associate with head start in technique and JOTKAS dispute with innovative digital production concepts and impact. Consequently developed sound and skills, a mixture of pop, experimental electronics, processing, vocal treatment. laptops and file transfer protokol.
ANTYE is texting in her own way of using everyday language and lyric. simple words form self created words. her emotional research on language on "old-school" pictures like gears or train stations progresses to more technical one. an example of her lyric "to result in onward development in code or is evolution a cycle mode". furthermore she passes on romatic words like "we are riding the moped through lavender" amongst icecoldin-between broken beats and ambient.One must say, her fusion of poetry and pop is very charming indeed. |
